ハワイアンキルトのことならどんなことでも -アンのハワイアンキルト-

Anne's Hawaiian Quilt Story

The namesake of Anne’s Hawaiian Quilt Studio & Shop, Sayuri “Anne” Fujiwara Clausen has published her second book titled “Hawaii, A Stroll with Flowers and Quilts” (translated from Japanese) during the Fall of 2008. The book shares with the reader the world of Hawaiian Quilts as it takes you on a stroll through Hawaii’s diverse flora. The natural beauty of Hawaii will surely inspire you to make your own quilt as it has done so for so many generations before. Her first book titled “Relaxing With Your Hawaiian Quilt” (translated from Japanese) was published in the Spring of 2004. This is a true instruction book that is still popular amongst quilters.

Through Hawaiian Quilting, Anne teaches more than just technique, she shares the history and culture of this special place called Hawaii. It’s not about how well you quilt, it’s about the experience. With each stitch, the Aloha Spirit can be felt within your heart as it warms your whole being. Anne’s fans and students say that her quilting style helps them relieve stress.

Just as Hawaiian Quilting has been passed down from grandmother to mother and then mother to daughter, Anne has learned from “Aunties,” the masters of Hawaiian Quilting. She learned about the history and culture of Hawaiian Quilts along with the lifestyle it entails. She has also studied extensively about the fauna of Hawaii and now stands shoulder to shoulder with the Aunties as equals, no longer a student.

Through her years of experience, Anne has used many different types of fabrics, threads, needles, hoops, etc. After carefully sorting through many different brands, she has gathered the items that she uses personally and feels are the best. You will find all everything you need to complete your quilt including dozens of colors of Fiesta 100% cotton which is soft to the touch along with appliqué and quilting thread to match.  Anne creates all of her own designs inspired by the natural beauty of Hawaii and her patterns range in size from small coasters to large bed covers.  All of which you can personalize by choosing your own colors and even learn to make during lessons. The feeling of Aloha, or love, is evident in all of her patterns with “heart” marks discreetly hidden in all of her patterns.

Sayuri “Anne” Fujiwara Clausen was introduced to the world of quilting beginning with patchwork quilting while attending high school in Ohio. After graduating from the University of Maryland, she found her way to Hawaii.   While visiting the Hana Maui Hotel, she came across a Hawaiian Quilt bed cover which sparked her passion. Since that time, she has fine tuned her skills as a quilter and teacher having studied with many Aunties and exploring the natural beauty of Hawaii.
